Wood Block Relief Prints

For the black and white relief, I burnished (rubbing the paper over the wood block to print) the print selectively. I wanted the background to be lighter than the foreground. In addition I used an Asian paper to make the prints more whimsical. For the color relief, I made two editions (there are three prints per edition) because I really enjoyed the combination of color. I used the original wood block (seen in an earlier post) and carved two more. The first layer I printed was the light green, the second layer was the original block printed in a light blue, and the final block was the dark green layer. I chose a light green and light blue to achieve a natural fourth layer within the print.
